TotalProfessions.com was set up with the aim of bringing professional bodies together to encourage and inspire the career aspirations of all people, whatever their background. It is the first major collective professional body initiative to respond to the lack of awareness of the work of over 300 professional bodies which in the UK have over 4 million members. The portal is also partly in response to the 2009 Government report, Unleashing Aspiration from the Panel on Fair Access to the Professions. The Panel, led by Alan Milburn MP commented:
Bright children from middle class families as well as those from poorer backgrounds are missing out on top professional jobs. Many professions are working hard to put this right but their efforts need to be intensified.
Professional Careers Ltd was formed in 2009 as a joint venture between PARN (Professional Associations Research Network) and Ashridge Communications. TotalProfessions.com builds on the initiatives that many professional bodies are already undertaking to encourage fair access to the professions. The brand is also likely to be extended into new areas of communication and collective interaction between professional bodies and their publics.
