As we know, getting a job as a graduate isn’t easy at the moment. However a sector that is still moving fast is insurance.  It’s big business, especially in the UK, which has by far the largest market in Europe.

Insurance professionals either work with the wholesale market, insuring the insurers, or with the retail market, insuring companies and individuals. They work closely with others, both clients and colleagues, to provide a good service that reduces risks for people and their livelihoods.

The benefits of a career in insurance are that the roles available are wide and varied; salaries are high; and the opportunity to develop valuable skills which can be transferred to other roles and to countries.

A lot of the large employers provide work experience and internships for graduates – have a look at the ‘Opportunities’ tab on the Financial Skills Partnership’s Directions section for insurance.

Recent graduates talk about their experiences working in insurance on the Chartered Insurance Institute’s Discover Risk YouTube channel. Find out more about the necessary skills in our employment data update for insurance, the sector that allows plenty of room to grow a future.
